One of the country’s leading Non-Governmental Organisations in girl child education; Advancing Girls Education in Africa (AGE Africa), has challenged girls to start thinking of pursuing businesses alongside academic goals they are striving to attain.

The call was made Saturday at this year’s “All Scholars Retreat” the NGO hosted at Makokola Police Cottage in Mangochi.

While expressing fresh vows on the organisation’s steadfastness in advancing livelihoods of girls, AGE Africa Country Director, Ulanda Mtaba said the retreat was organised with the aim of shaping girls into future sustainable entrepreneurs.

Jacquiline Chinulah, a Form Three student at Namalomba Secondary School described the retreat as an eye opener, saying it has revived her wish of running business.

Among other officials, the event was graced by Mangochi District Council Chair, Ivy Sande, who was also the guest of honor.

Sande advised the girls not to look down on themselves in their daily undertakings saying they are able to bring change in their communities.

The retreat which was held under the theme “Shaping the future: Creating young sustainable entrepreneurs” also witnessed AGE Africa awarding best students and teachers from seven schools It supports in Mangochi, Balaka and Machinga.
