Mangochi First Grade Magistrate Court has set May 8, as the day it is expected to pass it’s judgment on a case in which 43-year-old Muhammed Yusuf of Elavate Trust is being accused of embezzling the organization’s funds.

Yusuf, who appeared in court on Tuesday and was working as a secretary at the organization, is suspected to have misused funds amounting to K33 million.

“The money was meant to cater for the organization’s pension schemes, rentals and tax. However, Yusuf allegedly diverted it for his personal needs,” State Prosecutor, Emmanuel Kambwiri told the court.

Yusuf pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him , which forced the state to parade five witnesses.

He was then found guilty on the charge of theft by servant, contrary to Section 286 of the Penal Code.

Yusuf hails from Mwembe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District.
