The Principal Magistrate court in Mzuzu has denied bail to Director of Operations in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP, Joe Nyirongo.

Principal Resident Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda ordered that Nyirongo should remain on remand for the next 14 days as police are yet to finalise their Investigations on the matter.

Lawyer for Nyirongo, Leonard Mbulo applied for bail but state prosecutor, Vickness Simwinga objected.

He said the victim was still in critical condition in hospital. Again, Mbulo argued they needed to finalize their investigations on the matter.

Mbulo said they would follow the court’s order though he would have loved his client to be out on bail.

Mzuzu Police arrested Nyirongo Thursday morning in connection to robbery that reportedly happened in the city near Thukuta House.
