Office World Company driver, Nelson Swalesi, 35 has disappeared after withdrawing over K7.5 million from First Capital Bank, Area 3 branch in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu says reports show that the suspect accompanied the accounts assistant to the said bank to withdraw money for the company.

“However, whilst in the banking hall, the accounts assistant realized to have forgotten his identity card (ID). As a result, he asked the driver to use his ID for the transaction,” explains Chigalu.

Later, the driver was called to go on the till to collect the money. This time the accounts assistant was busy playing with his smartphone.

“Taking advantage that the accounts assistant was busy with his phone, the driver quietly sneaked out of the bank with the whole cash, K7,573,000 and car keys.

“All attempts to look for the suspect, who bolted on foot, leaving the company vehicle at the car park, proved futile.”

Police have since launched investigations to trace the whereabouts of the driver.

The suspect, Nelson Swalesi, hails from Mponda Village T/A Nsamala in Balaka District.
