Malawi’s ambassadors at the forthcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers in South Africa, Ntopwa Women’s Football Club, has received a timely morale boost as Football Association of Malawi-FAM has aided them with K13 million.

This comes barely a day after the team cried out loud begging for assistance on their K25 million budget deficit for the trip.

FAM General Secretary Alfred Gunda says the money will carter for local camping and local transport in South Africa.

He adds the local football governing body has also offered free full board accommodation to the team for two weeks at Mpira Village at the cost of K11 million.

Again, FAM has also facilitated the hiring of a bus coach at K2 million for the team’s travel from Johannesburg to Durban and return.

“We feel Ntopwa deserves support from all of us on this project which is crucial to the development of women’s football in the country and we are asking Malawians to come on board and support the team as they are carrying Malawi flag at this tournament,” says Gunda.

Ntopwa’s owner Jomo Osman has since commended FAM for the support.

“We would like to thank FAM for the gesture and we don’t take their support for granted. We will work hard and give our best at the tournament,” says Osman.

The team will fly to Durban on 27 August for the competition that will take place between 30 August and September 8, 2023.

Ntopwa are in Group A alongside last year’s winners Green Buffaloes from Zambia, Double Action Ladies from Botswana and Lesotho Defence Force.
