Government is fast tracking the relocation of Tropical Cyclone Freddy (TCF) survivors, most of whom are residing in camps situated in school premises, to new allocated campsites.

Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima made the remarks Saturday when he visited affected households at Naotcha Camp in Blantyre where he also donated K3 million.

He said the country already has a serious crisis hence the need not to create another that can affect education as well as health.

“We had Covid-19, and we don’t want to create another outbreak. In my reporting, therefore, I will recommend speedy relocation of displaced people to the newly allocated places.

“In those allocated places, government will erect family tents and all facilities for day-to-day living will be there. I would be happy to see all displaced people, in the next three to four weeks, rebuilding their homes and revamping their businesses,” he said.

The Vice President then advised authorities involved in the distribution of relief items to ensure that there is proper coordination of the activity so that every camp receives adequate support.

He, therefore, commended different stakeholders for supporting the displaced people with basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothes.

Traditional Authority Kapeni commended Government for the noble steps it has taken to ensure that the affected households are cared for.

Meanwhile, Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has donated working tools such as shovels, hoes, peaks, and also cash amounting to K1.5 million to people in Chilobwe that assisted in the recovery and burying of the dead bodies.
