Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General, Daudi Suleiman has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the National Addressing System (NAS) project aimed at giving physical address to every property in the country.
Suleiman made the remarks during a press briefing in Lilongwe on Monday.
“NAS has been a success. As of May, 2023 we have managed to name and number not only all the streets and roads but also properties in the Northern Region,” he said.
Currently, the Authority is in the final stages of delivering infrastructure assets that are going to be erected in all the districts in the northern region.
The works in the Northern Region have been estimated to be fully completed by 31St July, 2023 when all districts, both physically and digitally, are expected to be under NAS.
Meanwhile, MACRA has started engaging district authorities in the Central and Southern Regions.
MACRA is working on the revision of the Communications Act of 2016 to accommodate the NAS into the Act and also provide provisions on how to deal with people who are vandalising and violating NAS.
