MAN ARRESTED OVER FAKE CURRENCY IN MCHINJI

Mchinji Police Station is keeping in custody a man for being found in possession and usage of fake Malawi Kwacha bank notes.

According to Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer, Constable Limbani Mpinganjira, it is reported that on March 17, 2023, the suspect identified as Steven Yakobe, 22, bought some items from a shop at Kamwendo Trading Centre in the district using a fake K5000 Malawi bank note.

The owner of the shop became suspicious of the note and reported the matter to the police and eventually, the suspect got arrested by police detectives.

“Following further probe and search, the suspect was also found with four fake K5000 Malawi bank notes which he failed to account for,” said Mpinganjira.

According to the Police Publicist, the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of forged bank notes and using forged bank notes which contravene Section 366 of the Penal Code and Section 54, Subsection B of the Reserve Bank Act of 2018.
