Momentum Tikweze Umoyo Project has underscored the importance of building capacity of media practitioners with health promotion knowledge.

Deputy Chief of Party for Momentum Tikweze Umoyo Project, Patrick Mwagomba, made the remarks Monday in Mzuzu when he opened of a five-day training on building and strengthening capacity in media instructions.

Mwagomba said the training was organised to ensure that the media has the capacity to create community awareness on their rights to demand for quality health services.

Story Club FM journalist, Yankho Phiri, said journalists are supposed to give out accurate information for communities to make informed decisions on health related issues, among others.

Phiri said he was optimistic the training will equip the jornalists with information and knowledge that will improve their news reporting skills.

The project, designed to support government in addressing challenges in the health sector in Chitipa, Karonga, Nkhotakota, Salima and Kasungu, is funded by United States Agency for International Development.
