Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Digitalization, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi, presided over a meeting between Ministry of Information and Ministry of Water and Sanitation on the development of a comprehensive Communication Strategy for the Salima-Lilongwe Water Project at the Central Office of Information (COI) in Lilongwe on Tuesday.

The Salima-Lilongwe Water Project, which is expected to commence this February, is a national project aiming at improving the quality of water delivery for over 1.2 million people within the two districts.

In his opening remarks, Mtumodzi urged participants to collaborate and commit to establishing an extensive framework for raising awareness, sensitizing and updating the public about the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project.

Chief Executive Officer for Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company, Valentine Kaupa, said the project contracted to Khato Civils-South Zambezi Joint Venture, is estimated to cost 315 million US dollars.

Kaupa stated that the Malawi Government is financing 30 percent of the project while 70 percent will come from private investors. The project will take 24 months (2 years) from the day of commencement.
