About 374 people living with HIV and AIDS from Traditional Authority (TA) Mbawela in Thyolo district have each received a 20 kilogramme (kg) bag of maize and 5 kg of beans from Coalition of Women Living with HIV and AIDS (COWLHA).

Speaking during the distribution exercise at Konza Alendo ground on Tuesday, Programme Manager for COWLHA, Harry Madukani said the donation has reached out to members of the 19 support groups they work with whose crops were affected by Cyclone Freddy.

“Realizing that this area was heavily hit by the Cyclone, our members were not spared from the effects including in agriculture.

“Being people that are on Antiretrolviral Therapy (ART), food is the most important element in their medication. That is why we reached out to our donor who supported us with around K10 million,” he said.

One beneficiary of the donation from Namakhuwa Support Group, Rhoda Kasitomu thanked COWLHA for the relief foods, saying it would help them maintain a healthy status.
