Chairperson of the Chewa Herigate Foundation-CHEFO Stanley Khayila says he ready to engage religious leaders who condemn their culture for allegedly promoting sinning in the country.
He calls on such leaders to stop viewing them as such; adding he will make them understand the tradition better.
Khaliya was speaking during the Chewa Cultural event in Lilongwe on Saturday.
There have reports of Gulewamkulu harassing and even attacking innocent people for no apparent reasons with some people saying such defeats the respect attached to integrity of culture.
In his remarks, Local Government, Unity and Culture Minister, Richard Chimwendo Banda stressed on the need for politicians to refrain from using such cultural groupings to gain political mileage.
His comment comes a day after Malawi Congress Party Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka publicly faulted Democratic Progressive Party-DPP leader Peter Mutharika for declaring his interest to contest in the 2025 general elections at the Mulhako Wa Alhomwe cultural event in Mulanje a week ago.
Again, Chimwendo Banda challenged cultural groups to support government programmes in ending child marriages and promoting education among others.
