Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, spokesperson for Jenda Police, MacFarlane Mseteka said the robbers stole cash, postal stamps and TNM airtime vouchers.
“On this fateful day, the assailants knocked at the house of the post office master, Sanida Mtonga who was asleep at his institution’s house.
“Upon hearing the knock, Mtonga opened the door where he encountered seven unknown criminals armed with metal bars and machetes demanding him to get office keys before dragging him to the post office,” said Mseteka.
He said upon reaching the post office, Mtonga was forced to open three cash chests where they stole TNM credit cards valued at MK949,050.00, postal stamps worth MK126,000.00 and cash amounting to MK178,919.00.
“After the robbery, they dragged Mtonga into their vehicle and dumped him at Sinda area in the district. The victim reported the crime at Embangweni Police Unit and was referred to Embangweni Health Center for treatment since he was assaulted in the course,” said Mseteka.
