World Health Organisation (WHO) on Thursday handed over five ambulances and assorted medical supplies to the Ministry of Health (MoH) worth over K1.5 billion to boost the country’s response to cholera outbreak.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Area 25 Health Centre in Lilongwe, Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, commended WHO for the donation, saying the ambulances and medical supplies will enhance efforts directed towards cholera response in the country.

She has since warned health workers to use the donation for the intended purpose only.

In her remarks, WHO Director for Africa Region, Dr Matsudiso Moeti also emphasized that the donation is intended to enhance Malawi’s response to cholera outbreak and that as an organisation, they would ensure that the outbreak has reduced to Zero cases here in Malawi.
