Murder suspect, Lester Maganga, 29 has finally applied for bail at the High Court in Lilongwe; barely a day after Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda committed the case to this court.
His lawyer, Innocent Kubwalo has confirmed the development; saying the application is premised on the right of the accused as provided for in the laws and procedures.
Maganga, Personal Assistant to Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu, is suspected to have brutally killed Allan Witika, a former Sales Manager for Coca-Cola Beverages Company on September 15 this year.
However, the state is yet to indicate a fresh intent to contest the application but on Monday (it) asked the court to remand the suspect for 90 days for the police to conclude investigations.
Police are currently investigating a number of gruesome murder cases including that of former Reserve Bank of Malawi’s ICT Manager Agnes Katengeza who was found lifeless in her KIA Sportage car in Area 47 in Lilongwe.
This was followed by other shocking revelations of five dead bodies discovered in the capital city; creating insecurity panic among residents.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three women including a police officer for allegedly creating and circulating false information on the murder cases implicating minister Kunkuyu.
